Happy Birthday To Me! Happy Birthday To Me! You know the rest...
I made my grand entry into the world at 2:36 a.m. I was 8 pounds 12 ounces and 20 and 1/2 inches long. Mommy has said all along that I am absolutely beautiful and now she has living proof of it.
Mommy and Daddy were in the delivery room with my birth parents. As expected, Harley Bear was also there watching and worrying over me and my birth mother. Mommy tells me that Harley Bear will give me a complete play by play of my arrival. My Grandma Dale and Grandpa Jim came to the hospital that night because everyone thought I might be born at a reasonable hour. Grandma and Grandpa liked my biological parents a whole lot. My godparents Kay and Carl also came to wait for my arrival. For some reason the doctor decided to delay inducing labor and everyone thought it would be early to mid morning before I would make my arrival (I don't think my birth mother bought into this theory though). So Grandpa and Grandma went back to Dardanelle and planned on driving back up early in the morning to await my arrival. Aunt Kay and Uncle Carl also went home. Daddy and Mommy stayed with my birth parents. My birth mother got some rest while my birth father, Daddy and Mommy played Uno. Daddy played really well (this surprised Mommy because Daddy usually loses at any type of card game). Finally around 1 a.m. everyone decided to get some rest. I was polite and allowed them to rest for an hour before I decided get the party started. My birth mother knew I was coming but the nurse seemed convinced that she needed to wait to push because the doctor wasn't in the room yet because he was delivering another baby. It was pretty silly of the nurse to think that my birth mother didn't know her body well enough to know that I wanted to see the world and didn't want to wait a minute longer. The nurse finally realized that she was in trouble because I was well on my way. Mommy and Daddy opened the door to the room in order to get some help for my biological mother and the nurse (fear not though because my biological father was there, he could have delivered me). Then the doctor came running down the hall in his spiffy cowboy boots to my birth mother's room. He barely had time to get his gloves on when I made my way out into the world. Mommy and Daddy were very excited to see me. Daddy even got to cut my umbilical cord! (Mommy assured Daddy that she will blame him if I have a funny looking belly button.) He was so proud!!
In no time they whisked me off to the nursery to check me out completely. They moved so fast that I didn't have time to blow kisses at my biological mother and father. Daddy and Mommy went to the nursery with the nurse to make sure that I am okay. The picture on this blog is the very first picture of me (Mommy took a lot of pictures of me but that is a story for another day...it is a rather tragic story). They ran all their little tests on me, Mommy tells me that I received A pluses. Aunt Kay and Uncle Carl came right back up to the hospital and were able to come spend time with Mommy and Daddy in the nursery. Mommy ended up getting dizzy in the nursery. She was cold all evening and was layered with clothes but the heat lamps that they had me under made Mommy get too hot, too fast. I am glad she was okay after a little while. Any way, my biological father also came to the nursery to make sure that I was doing well. Daddy tried to tell my biological father how he felt holding me, but he got choked up. My biological father told Daddy that he didn't have to say anything because he knew. Mommy got all teary eyed because she too knew. Mommy let Daddy give me my first bottle and he did great! By 7:30 the next morning Mommy and Daddy were given a private room that I got to stay in with them!
Any way, I am doing great and my biological mother is also doing great! Mommy and Daddy want to thank everyone for all the prayers that my biological mother and I did not have any problems during labor and delivery.
Grandma and Grandpa came back to the hospital early the next morning to see me. They were so happy to meet me. It seems like everyone under the sun came to visit me. Grandpa Len and Granny Bev also came up to the hospital to meet me. More and more people came to see me. Uncle Lenny, Aunt Patty, Auntie Norma, Auntie Tedi, Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Laura, Ms. Joann, Uncle Jerry, Auntie Alicia, Auntie Sommer and Amanda, and on and on. I also met my biological grandmother and she held me for a few minutes. My Great Aunt Darlene came too. Aunt Darlene, Daddy and Mommy all wish that my Great Grandma Marie could have been there too. I would have loved to meet her. Sorry if Mommy failed to mention anyone, she was tired and her brain wasn't functioning properly.
All this Aunt business gets confusing so Daddy explained to me that I have real Aunts and honorary Aunts. He says real Aunts trump honorary Aunts but Supreme Aunts trump all and Aunt Darlene is a Supreme..the highest rank. Mommy reminded Daddy that there is still one person in the area that can trump a supreme, Mommy's Great Aunt Sybil. Daddy then revised the pecking order and decided that the Aunt hierarchy is headed by the Super Supreme Aunt Sybil.
Uncle Ronny tried to come to see me but Mommy forgot all about him saying he might stop by to see me. Mommy, Daddy and Aunt Darlene had decided to go get some dinner when Uncle Ronny tried to stop by. He snuck up on them at the restaurant though. Mommy said Uncle Ronny was a bad boy by sneaking around the restaurant to pay for the meal. She loves him though because he has a super duper big heart. Mommy realized on the way back from dinner that she and Daddy weren't very bright because both of them left the premises without making sure that the nursery had their cellular phone numbers in the event there was a problem.
Mommy and Daddy finally got to get some sleep. They both slept on this little gurney that was in our room. They didn't look very comfortable to me but they seemed happy with the arrangements. All they cared about was being able to stay in the same room with me to bond.
